Nigeria gets First National Security Strategy Policy Document

Nigeria is for the first time getting a comprehensive national Security Strategy document which will advance the nation’s strategic approach and strengthening the security and resilience at home. This is one of the best initiatives of the immediate past National Security Adviser,General Andrea Azazi (rtd). The documents also focus on the comprehensive engagement on how to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat terrorism in Nigeria.

The much-awaited National Security Policy that would guide the implementation of all security issues in the country has been drafted by the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral Thomas Lokoson, who told journalists that the policy has been sent to all security stakeholders for their input before it is transmitted to the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Lokoson also announced that the College, as one of  the leading military training institutions in sub-Saharan Africa, will next week graduate a total of 130 participants, including 10 nationals from 10 African countries.
The foreign participants  are from Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger and Sierra Leone.

It is on record that the College, which was established on 16th June, 1992, has in its 20 years graduated a total of 1,469 participants including 138 from sister African and other countries.
Other graduands are from the Nigerian Army (622), Nigerian Navy (254), Nigerian Air Force (295), Nigeria Police (55) and 105 from strategic federal establishments. Lokoson also explained that the national security policy, which was commissioned by the immediate past NSA, General Andrew Azazi, was ready.
“ We directed that it be sent to stakeholders in the security sector for consideration and review before we collate and send it to the NSA”, he said.

He said  as part of activities lined up to celebrate its 20th anniversary, former military leader, Gen Ibrahim Babangida, whose government established the College, will deliver the Course 20 graduation lecture with the theme, “Strategic Vision and National Development: Reflecting on the Creation of NDC, 20 Years After.”
“And next week Friday, the Course 20 participants will graduate. Apart from the 10 foreign participants, others include 40 from the Nigerian Army, 36 from the Nigerian Navy, 35 from the Nigerian Air Force, two each from the Nigeria Police and the State Security Services and one participant each from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Intelligence Agency and the National Space Research Development Agency”, he stated.
